Courage under Fire: Federal Mud Tyres review
"On the bitumen the seriously open tread was slightly noisier than my BFG's, but not as noisy as, say, my Mickey claws".
"In the hills around Coffs harbour, the MT felt right at home. On fast dirt roads, they exhibited excellent grip and were reluctant to lose traction. However, we soon left the dirt forestry roads and locked in the centre diff in search of some more challenging tracks. We dropped the pressures from 32 psi down to 15 psi".
But it was the mud they most loved. I put it down to the mega-open tread and stepped lugs, the mud just had a bugger of a time holding on. The outer lugs are stepped so that every second lug protrudes, which gives good bite into the track. There's also small ridge in between the outer lugs that helps stop the mud from sticking.
